Farmers have until Dec. 19 to sign up for the Canadian Wheat Board’s special one-time delivery program for Pelissier, a Canadian Western Amber Durum (CWAD) wheat de-registered Aug. 1, 2007.
The program is designed to encourage farmers to clean out all stocks of the variety.
Upon delivery farmers will be paid based on a grade of No. 5 — the default grade under the Canada Grain Act for all de-registered CWAD.
However, because of the program, the CWB will mail the difference in grade value directly to the farmer, less $15 a tonne to cover handling, sales and administration costs.

Farmers who get delivery contracts can deliver their Pelissier durum wheat to one of three elevators in Saskatchewan: Viterra at Maple Creek,
Parrish and Heimbecker at Wilson Siding, and Southwest Terminal at Antelope.
Samples are required at time of sign-up. Only samples containing 70 per cent or greater levels of the Pelissier will be accepted. The CWB also reserves the right to audit bins. It doesn’t want farmers to use the program to deliver registered durums blended with Pelissier.
In the future the industry will get two years’ notice before a wheat or durum wheat is de-registered. Seed growers should then stop producing that variety. It should also give farmers enough time to clean out their bins while the variety is still registered and eligible for the top grades.
