AGGronomyTV: The 4Rs and the environment

Nov 1 to 15: The federal government is asking farmers to implement voluntary targets to help reduce nitrous oxide emissions in crop production. Thankfully, there are ways to help growers accomplish this, not the least of which are implementing the 4R’s (right source, right rate, right time, and right place) when it comes to applying fertilizer to field crops. At the EMILI field day near Grosse Isle, Manitoba, this past summer, Mario Tenuta with the University of Manitoba spoke about the emissions reduction initiative, what’s missing on the Prairies when it comes to the 4Rs, and field research that showed the difference in nitrous oxide emissions between shallow- and deep-banded fertilizer in canola.

With such a valuable co-worker at the side of crop growers it's right to ask, just how healthy are these hard-working honeybee populations? In this video from Crop Diagnostic School recorded this past summer, Derek Micholson, apiarist with Manitoba Agriculture, provides an update to Manitoba's bee populations and shares how people can help pollinator populations thrive.

VIDEO: How to maintain accurate sheep body condition scores

Body condition scoring relies on the accuracy of human hands, but the mind can play tricks

Body condition scoring livestock is an inherently human, hands-on process and that means it’s subjective. Steps can be taken to make sure evaluations are repeatable across many animals, says Delma Kennedy, sheep specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Why it matters: Body condition scoring helps to evaluate the effectiveness of […] Read more

AGCanadaTV Special Feature: Worrisome grain supplies

Weather and global events continue to create more than enough uncertainty in the ag world, and grain markets are no different. At Ag in Motion this past summer, Ed White of The Western Producer spoke with Bruce Burnett of MarketsFarm about world grain supplies and his forecast for commodity markets going into the harvest season.

AGCanadaTV Special Feature: Up, up and away!

At Ag in Motion this past summer, there was plenty on deck to see and do, but one demonstration in particular captured the imagination of attendees. In a series of test flights one afternoon, LandView Drones showed how its fleet of drones can be used for precision mapping, field analysis and targeted spray applications.
