The only Canadian-made self-propelled total mixed ration (TMR) mixer is now available in Ontario.
Highline Manufacturing is distributing its AMX1000S large-capacity mixer through Harco Ag Equipment.
The companies had the machine at the Canadian Dairy Xpo (CDX) in Stratford on April 2 and 3, 2025.

AgSenze automated body condition scoring can catch disease earlier
AgSenze has developed an automated body condition scoring camera for dairy cows which shows when a cow could be losing weight too quickly, allowing for early disease detection.
Why it matters: Self-propelled mixers have become popular as they can replace a mixer tractor and a loader on dairy and cattle farms with one machine.
The machine is built for Canadian conditions, says Claude Rouault, international sales director with Highline. Highline, based in Saskatchewan, is owned by Bourgault Industries, which is owned by Ontario-based Linamar, which has greatly expanded its agriculture sector holdings in the past five years.
Highline has had other products available in Ontario, but Rouault says they believe there’s a fit for the AMX1000S in the province’s dairy and beef operations.
“The concept of this is that we wanted something that was North American based, North American made, so that it could handle our conditions, it could handle our weather,” he said at CDX. The Dairy Xpo illustrated those changing conditions, with the interview conducted on a sunny morning, the day after an afternoon of sleet, ice and snow.
The chassis and running gear are some of the ways it is set up for Canadian conditions, along with more aggressive tires than are usually found on TMR mixers. The drive train is hydrostatic and all-wheel drive.
“We’ve also designed it around some of the cold weather, some of the hydraulic requirements that are needed for the temperatures and the weather, as we experienced yesterday at CDX.”
The unit is also designed for simplicity and ease of use.
It is powered by a Cummins B6.7 six-cylinder diesel engine with 310 horsepower, accessed by a sliding rear cover at the back of the machine. The AMX1000S is fitted with an automatic greasing system that services 34 grease points on the unit.
“It reduces the daily maintenance needed to get to some of these grease zerks,” he says.
Capacity is 1000 cubic feet, with twin screws. There are right and left-side discharge options with one or two chutes that can be fitted with drops or conveyors depending on the needs of the farm. Rouault says it would fit best on a dairy farm feeding about 300 cattle, or a beef cow-calf operation with 1,800 head.
The loading arm reaches 20-foot-high silage bunks and it can cut the length of materials as it is pulling them into the mixer.
Rouault says it has pulled in everything from potatoes to haylage, straw, baled silage and french fries.
The Highline AMX1000S has a full-size cab set out the front of the machine, not to the side, like some TMR mixers, with a buddy seat, also different from some other self-propelled TMR mixers. Roualt says the larger cab is more comfortable in Canadian conditions and makes for easier training.
A touch screen inside the cab manages the machine with options to manage mixing RPMs, steering and engine information. There are four cameras on the machine.
