Filippo Marangoni, of Sitrex, was at the Ottawa Valley Farm Show talking about the Italian mixers now available in Canada.

A leading Italian self-propelled total mixed ration (TMR) mixer is now available in Canada.

The Sitrex TMR mixers and their legacy companies have been producing mixers for 50 years and that experience sets the company apart, says Filippo Marangoni, Sitex’s export manager.

Why it matters: Self-propelled mixers are becoming popular on dairy and beef farms in Canada due to their efficiencies.

“Vehicles are becoming very expensive. Cost of diesel is becoming super expensive,” says Marangoni. “So the self-propelled gives you the advantage that one man does everything, and you have one engine running instead of having multiple engines in different vehicles.”

He was at the Ottawa Valley Farm Show, where the mixers, distributed by Broeders Farm Equipment, were on display. Broeders also had the new mixers at the London Farm Show and the Canadian Dairy Xpo.

Sitrex purchased the AGM mixer line in 2010, and the AGM name continues to appear on the Sitrex mixers due to its long history and reputation in Europe. AGM invented the now-standard vertically placed strews in mixers, says Marangoni. Sitrex also makes hay rakes, balers and straw choppers.

Marangoni says the Sitrex self-propelled mixers have a higher quality TMR mix produced from the 50 years of experience in mixing feed. He also says the Sitrex machines come with a lower total cost of ownership due to the longevity and cost of the machines.

“There is a number of small details, from the way the tank is built, to the way the auger is built, to the way the milling arm works, to the way we build our hydraulics, so there is a complex of different elements that creates a superior quality of the TMR,” he says.

The company is launching in Ontario but also plans to sell the Sitrex self-propelled TMR mixer in western Canada.

The company has six different self-propelled mixers, including the new Sprint model on display in Ontario at farm shows.

The Sprint comes with two augers and capacities of 16, 18 and 20 cubic meters in its mixing tank.

It can travel at up to 40 km/h, so works well for farmers with multiple sites to feed. The Sprint comes with a standard 218 horsepower Volto Penta four-cylinder engine, with a reversible fan for radiator cleaning.

The company has two other dual auger models that have up to 30 cubic meter mixing tanks available, the Premier Maxi and the Virage Maxi.

The company also has several smaller self-propelled models ranging from 14 to 20 cubic metres and are single auger machines including the Premier, the Feedstar and the Virage.

The self-propelled mixers are hydrostatic driven and can be mostly controlled with a joystick.

Broeders Farm Equipment is based in North Augusta, Ont., but has recently expanded to provide maintenance support in western Ontario.
