The national Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmer (COYF) event, previously scheduled to be held in Saskatoon in December this year, has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
In a statement in the ‘Land Leader’, the official publication of the COYF program, Steve Cooper, the organization’s chair, said, “the Saskatchewan Hosting committee for the 2020 National Event advised the national board that the best move was to cancel the 2020 event. The board agreed and the event was cancelled.”
Cooper added that the pandemic has created far too many unknowns to make any plans for a future national event and that hopefully come fall the organization will have, “some news of what the future of the national event will look like moving forward.”
It was also decided at a July 6 hosting committee meeting for the national 2021 COYF event, previously planned to be held in Montreal, Que., that ‘insurmountable hurdles’ made it too difficult for that city to host.
The organization has since reached out to its alumni regarding a new yet-to-be-determined host location for the COYF ceremony in 2021.
