“In ag and agri-food, most businesses are small and medium-sized. We are talking about a sector where the impact of an attack could be getting out of the business completely.” – Ali Dehghantanha, Canada Research Chair in Cybersecurity and Threat Intelligence.

Qualified local agriculture associations and marketing boards could receive funds for cybersecurity upgrades.

Ontario’s Cybersecurity Preparedness Initiative will provide up to 50 per cent of costs, up to a maximum of $50,000 for projects enhancing the cybersecurity of boards or associations under the Farm Products Marketing Act (FPMA) Section 12 of the FPMA, the Milk Act, or the Beef Cattle Marketing Act.

The enhancements must be tailored specifically to meet agricultural sector needs and be accompanied by written quotes from third parties detailing the proposed eligible costs for the project.
