Cimegra provides effective control against Colorado potato beetles, a highly damaging and yield-inhibiting potato pest.

BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions (BASF) has expanded the Cimegra insecticide label for foliar use on potatoes to control Colorado potato beetles.

“Cimegra is a unique product in our insecticide portfolio because it is currently the only Group 30 available on the market,” said Chris Vander Kant, BASF Canada’s corn, soybeans and horticultural crop manager, in a release.

HJV unveils split grader with Tomra Optical Sorter at Potato Field Day

At Ontario’s Potato Field Day, farmers got a first look at HJV’s Split Grader prototype. Paired with a Tomra 3A optical sorter, the system removes green potatoes and debris at 100 tons per hour, improving storage quality and reducing labour needs.

Vander Kant said providing growers with an alternative integrated pest management strategy option was necessary because the pest is showing resistance to current market insecticide groups.

Effective via contact and ingestion and powered by a unique IRAC Group 30 mode of action, the company said the insecticide provides growers with rapid knockdown and control of tough chewing pests.

In addition to foliar use in potatoes, the label expansion includes increased foliar use for a vast number of horticultural products, including leafy vegetables, leaf petiole vegetables, brassica head and stem vegetables to control diamondback moth, cabbage looper, imported cabbage worm and flea beetles and red-headed flea beetles.

Fruiting vegetables can utilize it to combat Colorado potato beetles, tomato and tobacco hornworms, while pre-transplant soil applications and incorporation with sweet potatoes can help control wireworms.
