In response to growing public concern over farmers’ use of fertilizer, Lemken has introduced the MicroHub 5 applicator that spreads microgranules directly into the seed row.

Glacier FarmMedia – The latest version of the Azurit MicroHub 5 precision drill can apply microgranules as well as soybeans and sunflower seeds.

As fertilizer efficiency gets more public attention, Lemken has increased its research and development into more efficient fertilizer equipment. The MicroHub 5 is the latest piece designed specifically with this factor in mind. The initial nutrient requirements of a crop can be covered by relatively small amounts of microgranules.

The MicroHub 5 is a spreader that allows material to be applied near seeds. Microgranules contain water-soluble nutrients that are rapidly available to plants, promoting crop development. This is particularly important in cold, dry spring seasons, according to a Lemken press release.

Agco settles legal dispute with TAFE

Agco and Tractors and Farm Equipment (TAFE) from India announced July 1 that they had settled their legal dispute, which began in 2024 over local ownership of the Massey Ferguson brand name and other concerns.

“MicroHub holds 200 litres of fertilizer, which can be applied at rates ranging from one to 40 kilograms per hectare. The metering unit is operated electrically and granules are pneumatically delivered to the seed furrow. The system is controlled via the Azurit on-board terminal. This is the ultimate in precision,” says Bernd Valtwies, head of precision seed drill technology.

“We offer this option for our Azurit with up to eight rows. This unit is not only available for new machines, but retrofit kits will be available. A furrow former has been added to the seeding coulters to improve the quality of seed placement. The drill pipe has been updated and now comes with an inlet that can be replaced once worn.”

Apart from the proven four-row, six-row and eight-row variants with row spacings of 70 to 80 centimetres, the Azurit is available with six or 12 rows with a 50-cm row spacing.

Another new feature is automatic seed singling for corn. The system monitors and adjusts the quality of seed singling. This system can be retrofitted to older machines. A new fertilizer monitoring system automatically alerts the operator if individual fertilizer coulters become blocked.
