Glacier FarmMedia – Producers in the market for a new tractor now have additional models to consider.
AGCO’s Massey Ferguson brand is introducing the 5S and larger 8S series, with all-new designs that incorporate a range of new features. The 5S series will offer three models from 115 to 145 horsepower. The line made its North American debut at the Farm Progress Show in Illinois at the end of August 2021.
All tractors in the 5S series get their power from a 4.4-litre, four-cylinder diesel that uses what the brand calls an “all-in-one” emissions reduction system, which is pretty thrifty when it comes to DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) consumption. Helping further reduce emissions is an electronic wastegate turbocharger, which also allows the engine to ramp up its output.

Agco and Tractors and Farm Equipment (TAFE) from India announced July 1 that they had settled their legal dispute, which began in 2024 over local ownership of the Massey Ferguson brand name and other concerns.
To deliver power from that diesel engine, buyers can opt for either the Dyna 4 16×16 or Dyna 6 24×24 transmission. Both allow for a maximum road speed of 40 kilometres per hour at just 1,530 engine r.p.m.
The tractors can also be spec’d out with one of three different hydraulic systems, using either an open or closed centre hydraulic pump. Hydraulic flow ranges from 15 to 29 gallons per minute (56 to 109 litres per minute). A front three-point hitch linkage package is also an option. It can lift 6,600 pounds (2,721 kilograms), while the rear linkage gets a 10,300-lb.-capacity rating (or 4,672 kg).
The cab offers a wider door for easier entry, and inside operators will find a new armrest control layout along with a completely new and ergonomic overall cab layout. A left-hand power control lever changes tractor direction, shifts speeds and selects neutral, while a choice of joysticks operate the loader. Cab interior options packages range from “Classic” to the more luxurious “Deluxe” levels. Visibility is maximized by a narrow dashboard and steep-nosed hood.
The 8S Series
The 8S series offers models farther up the horsepower ladder, spanning the 205- to 265-horsepower range. This series also made its North American debut at the U.S. Farm Progress Show alongside their smaller brothers.
Under the 8S hoods is a 7.4-litre diesel engine with a similar “all-in-one” after-treatment system. Behind the engines, the tractors can be delivered with a Dyna-E-Power dual-clutch transmission, which allows for gear changes without torque interruption, or the brand’s Dyna-VT CVT version.
The 8S tractors pack their power into a relatively light package, with just an 8.7-ton (7,892 kg) base weight, although it can be ballasted much heavier. And it has a wheelbase of 10 feet (3.048 metres) for improved stability to better handle mounted implements or attachments.
Up in the cab, these tractors get a new look too. The interior layout uses colour coding on all controls. The new MF vDisplay puts the key information operators need in an easy-to-read digital dashboard, which can be personalized.
The Datatronic 5 terminal, standard on the 8S, allows operators to change setups quickly and easily on the hydraulics, transmission and engine to make operation simpler and faster.
And, in front of the cab is a 9.4-inch (24 centimetre) gap between the windshield and the hood to reduce noise and vibration. The space also allows for better airflow around the engine to improve cooling.
Both the 5S and 8S models will begin arriving on dealers’ lots this year.
