CNS Canada –– A new crushing plant Cargill is building at Camrose, Alta. will soon provide another outlet for Prairie canola, as the company is set to take delivery from farmers starting Tuesday.

The facility, first announced in 2012, will be able to crush 2,500 tonnes of canola per day when operating at capacity. The plant also includes two separate unloading lines, which can each move 500 tonnes per hour.

In a letter to area residents earlier this month, Cargill said construction was on target for completion this spring, with an official opening planned for an as-yet unknown date in the summer.

Cargill is already contracting with farmers, and the company’s communication department has confirmed it will begin taking seed deliveries March 24.

However, exactly when that seed will start to be processed, and Cargill’s timeframe for ramping the plant up to full capacity, was not provided.
