$10 million gift funds new animal education centre at Lakehead University

Facility’s Anishinaabemowin name, Gakina Awesiinyag, “All Animals (Place For),” honours Indigenous lands

Lakehead University’s Collaborative Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (CDVM) program receives $10 million investment. The new animal education facility will be named Gakina Awesiinyag, from the Anishinaabemowin language, which translates to “All Animals (Place For).”

Provincial funding will support six public outreach initiatives

Farm & Food Care Ontario (FFCO) gets a $597,000, three-year funding agreement from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA) to enhance and expand consumer outreach and farmer and agri-business training.

The University of Guelph has developed an internship course for graduate students in master's programs at the Ontario Agricultural College. The paid internship will run 12 to 16 weeks, beginning in May 2025 and lasting until August.
