Timing is everything during haying season. In the face of unpredictable weather, Canadian farmers often find themselves with a narrow window of time to get the job done. Equipment must be ready to go as soon as that window opens.
“It can make or break the quality of the feed, how many fields they can get done or how many bales they can sell or store,” says Sean Adams, product manager of hay and forage harvesting equipment for Kubota Canada.
“Having reliable equipment is really the number one contributing factor to a successful harvest.”

Kubota has taken that message to heart with its recently expanded hay tool and tractor lineup designed for Canadian farmers.
The company’s diverse lineup of BV Series round balers and M7-4 tractor series are designed to deliver ease of operation and reliable outputs.
An example is the BV5160 baler, whose PowerBind net wrap system automates the tie feature, ensuring the net will stay tight with no interference.
Safety and convenience are prominent features of Kubota’s rotor feed balers. Their Parallelogram DropFloor system allows operators to quickly and easily clear blockages without leaving the tractor cab. The system lowers the rear edge of the drop floor and provides more space under the front section where blockages can occur.
For increased capacity and bale density, the EasyFeed system in the BV4580 5×6 foot baler allows the crop to flow across the entire width of the bale chamber.
“All of this is to say, we try to be simple, reliable, easy to use and productive,” Adams says.
Repetitive manual tasks can be frustrating as they eat up time on a perfect sunny day. Several new features on Kubota’s M7-4 tractors are designed to address this with faster, easier operation. For example, the Powershift transmission’s Xpress Restart feature allows operators to stop the tractor without having to engage the clutch each time.
Another example in the KVT (Kubota Variable Transmission) model is the standard active stop feature. This keeps the tractor in place without the operator needing to continuously press the brake pedal or put the transmission in park.
“It’s easy to operate, reduces operator fatigue and allows them to be more productive at the end of the day,” says Kyle Dabrowski, manager of agriculture products for Kubota.
“We have a lot of value-added features that are included in the base price of the tractor. And they are easy to operate. It’s simple to move from one model to the next.”
Kubota’s expanded lineup of hay tools also offers plenty of choice to farmers. The BV5160 4×5-foot variable chamber baler comes in three rotor feed configurations: PowerFeed, SuperCut-14 and SuperCut-25. The new BV5200 can produce larger four-by-six-foot bales. It’s available in both SuperCut-14 and SuperCut-25 configurations.
