Biologicals: a sustainable tool to help increase your bottom line

Each year, farmers face increased pressure to meet demands for abundant, sustainable, high-quality outputs. In turn, we have seen a heightened need for innovative solutions that not only help you meet these demands, but also improve your bottom line.

Biologicals provide natural tools to complement your current production practices—such as protecting your crops from pests or enhancing plant resilience and growth—while providing sustainable tools to maximize crop potential.

Biologicals are a type of agriculture solution derived from natural materials. They are often living organisms and can be bacteria, amino acids or plant extracts (1). Building on processes that are already effective in nature and created in collaboration with some of the world’s leading innovators in biologicals, Corteva Agriscience has developed an industryleading biologicals portfolio to help keep Canadian farms healthy and productive today and tomorrow.

Proven, predictable performance

At Corteva, we know innovation only matters if our advancements make a difference on your farm. That’s why our biological products go through the same rigorous testing processes as any of our crop protection offerings, to verify safety, efficacy and enhance plant health and protection.
Our knowledgeable field and agronomy teams also have boots on the ground across Canada so they can provide expert recommendations on how biological products can complement and enhance existing farming practices.

A complementary solution

Incorporating biologicals on the farm is like adding another tool to your toolbox. They are designed to be a complementary solution to persistent challenges such as resistance management, environmental impact, and nitrogen loss in soil.

Take conventional nitrogen fertilizer, for example. While it will remain critical in Canadian farming for years to come, it can be subject to loss varying from 25 to 60 percent depending on environmental conditions (2). Identifying this clear need in the market, Corteva recently introduced Utrisha™ N Nutrient Efficiency Biostimulant to help growers maximize the potential of crops like canola, corn, cereals and soybeans.

Designed to be used in conjunction with conventional fertilizer, Utrisha N enhances and diversifies nitrogen programs by providing a supplemental and continuous source of nitrogen. As a result, Utrisha N helps to maximize plant growth and crop potential by improving the nitrogen availability in the plant throughout the growing season, resulting in healthier and more resilient plants.

Don’t worry – biologicals are easy to use!

We develop our biological solutions to work side by side with evolving farming practices, with simple, flexible storage and application. In fact, according to a recent customer survey, 8 out of 10 growers plan to use Utrisha N again this year, with one user calling it “very easy to handle, great to tank mix and spray.”

Showing our continued commitment to both the biologicals category and to Canadian farmers like you, Corteva has also released a new formulation for Utrisha N that will further improve ease of use. This formulation provides additional tank-mix options as well as an expanded application window.

A bright future for biologicals

Biologicals are expected to represent about 25 percent of the overall crop protection market by 2035 (3) as farmers around the globe seek new, proven options to increase production and sustainability.

Growing the most productive crop possible

In the coming years, Corteva biologicals will help the agriculture industry meet demands for affordable, abundant, highquality food by protecting crops from pests and disease, enhancing plant health and maximizing nutrition efficiency.

As a perfect complement to existing practices, biologicals will also help you tackle the challenges of resistance management, preserve your land for the future and, most importantly, enhance productivity and profitability on your farm.
