Lisa Thompson becomes Minister of Rural Affairs after province splits OMAFRA into two separate ministries

Rob Flack, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London is Ontario's new Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness.

Rob Flack, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London has been announced as Ontario’s new Minister of Farming, Agriculture, and Agribusiness. Lisa Thompson, former Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), is now the Minister of Rural Affairs.

Premier Doug Ford announced the change during a last-minute cabinet shuffle late Thursday afternoon, after abruptly announcing the legislature would rise a week earlier than expected, and not return until October 21.

The Premier’s press office confirmed that OMAFRA has been split into two separate ministries. Details on the split have not been provided.

Flack was formerly the Associate Minister of Housing, having been appointed to that position in September 2023. His other roles since assuming office in June 2022 have been as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Member, Standing Committee on the Interior.

Prior to his political career, Flack was president and CEO of Masterfeeds. He resides with his family in Dorchester and raises Dorbay Polled Hereford cattle.
