Halton Region Police are reporting that a pedestrian has been killed at Appleby Line and Harvester Road in Burlington, the site of the Fearman’s Pork plant.

Reporters on the scene are saying that the person killed was a protester who attempted to feed a pig in a moving truck and was struck and killed.

Police say that the person who died was a woman in her 60s and that she was struck by a transport truck.

The area is a site of regular protests against the use of animals for food and was one of the flashpoints that led to the passing of Bill 156 earlier this week. That legislation increased fines for people trespassing within animal production zones, which include livestock trucks and processing plants.

Fearmans Pork is owned by Sofina Foods.
