The CEO of Canada’s biggest rail network expects to be off work until late fall for surgery and radiation treatments on a precancerous tumour.
Canadian National Railway’s (CN) chief executive Claude Mongeau said Wednesday he expects to have surgery either near the end of this month or early in September, to remove a rare type of soft-tissue tumour in his larynx.
The treatment plan, he said in a statement to CN staff, will involve a month of healing after surgery, then about six weeks of targeted radiation therapy.
CN said Mongeau “intends to remain engaged with CN’s business” but Luc Jobin, the Montreal-based firm’s chief financial officer, has been tapped to co-ordinate CN’s management until Mongeau can return to work.
Mongeau described the tumour as “a serious health setback for me personally,” but said he’s confident “CN will not miss a beat while I take good care of myself to recover fully.” –– AGCanada.com Network
