Canadian canola exports are running well ahead of the year-ago pace with increased business to Europe and the United Arab Emirates more than making up for reduced sales to China, according to the latest monthly export data from the Canadian Grain Commission.

Canada has exported 9.166 million tonnes of canola during the 11 months of the 2019/20 crop year, which compares with 8.596 million during the August to June period the previous year.

Formerly the number one destination for Canadian canola, Chinese purchases-to-date are roughly half of what was seen in 2018/19 at 1.732 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, total exports to Europe of 1.993 million tonnes are about four-times as large as what moved during the same timeframe the previous year, with France, Germany, and Belgium the biggest customers.

Canadian canola exports to the United Arab Emirates of just over one million tonnes are roughly double the 2018/19 level, as crushers in the country process the seed and export the oil.

Japan remains a consistent destination, with the 2.017 million tonnes shipped-to-date in line with the year-ago level.
