Bayer CEO: we will have to stop U.S. glyphosate production if nothing changes

Bayer on Wednesday said it would be forced to stop its U.S. production of widely-used farming weedkiller glyphosate unless regulatory or legal changes are made to stave of litigation that has been weighing on the German company.

In Saskatchewan, many areas recorded temperatures just above freezing overnight. In Manitoba, temperatures were generally between 3 and 7 C in agricultural growing regions.

But the government weather agency predicts temperatures will be much colder late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning in parts of Alberta, which could bring significant crop damage.

Environment Canada is predicting lows of -5 to -6 C at Grande Prairie, Red Deer and Lethbridge. Other areas in the province are expected to hover just above or below freezing, including Peace River and Edmonton.

Milder temperatures, hovering around the freezing mark are expected in many parts of Manitoba and Saskatchewan overnight, according to Environment Canada’s forecast.

There is a risk of frost in more northern agricultural areas of Saskatchewan; temperatures could dip as low as – 3 C in the Prince Albert area.
