Winnipeg feed firm Ridley Inc. has wrapped up a US$3 million deal for Kentucky livestock supplement block maker Ultralyx.

Ridley, which maintains head offices in both Manitoba and Minnesota, announced last month that it had signed a letter of intent to buy Ultralyx and its parent company, 4 Seasons Marketing, based in Flemingsburg, northeast of Lexington.

The company’s assets include its manufacturing plant at Flemingsburg, where it makes supplement tubs, loose mineral supplement and pressed block products. Last year it introduced a low-moisture cooked tub product line.

Ultralyx’s “proprietary and innovative manufacturing capabilities that utilize dried distiller grains (DDGs) give Ridley an unparalleled product offering to the marketplace in North America,” Ridley CEO Steve VanRoekel said in a release Monday.

The deal won’t bring Ultralyx products to Canada but will give Ridley “expanded manufacturing capabilities” in the eastern U.S. and allow for opportunities for expansion across North America.

The deal also “continues to show Ridley’s commitment to the free choice supplement market in North America,” the company said.
