Calgary-based off-patent herbicide maker MANA Canada has picked up registration for a Group 1 wild oat and green foxtail control it plans to market against Puma.
MANA on Monday launched Bengal 120EC, which uses fenoxaprop-p-ethyl, the same active ingredient as Bayer CropScience’s Puma brand.
“Competition in the marketplace is good for producers and retailers and once again MANA delivers an alternative supply to the marketplace,” Dale Kushner, Canadian commercial business manager for MANA Canada, said in the company’s release.
Bengal is registered only for use in spring wheat crops, durum included, for control of grassy weeds such as wild oat, barnyard grass and green foxtail. The product also has “nearly 30” tank-mix partners for broadleaf control, the company said.

Bengal is to be marketed by the 6.2 litre-jug, which covers 20 acres, or by the 99.3-litre drum, which covers 320 acres, MANA said.
MANA is short for Makhteshim Agan of North America, Inc., the North Carolina-based North American subsidiary of Makhteshim Agan Group, an Israeli firm that bills itself as the seventh-ranking farm chemical company worldwide by market share and number one in the off-patent segment.
