Nova Scotia’s Cider House Co. Ltd. plans to expand production of its high-end hard apple cider, citing opportunities in both North America and Europe.
The company, affiliated with winery Grand Pre Wines Ltd. (50 miles northwest of Halifax on Minas Basin) plans to lease an area of the former Avon Foods building in nearby Berwick, where it will install fermentation tanks. The tanks will store juice pressed at Great Valley Juice in Port Williams, and Maritime Beer at Dartmouth will handle bottling.
Funding for the project will come in part through a $500,000 loan from the Nova Scotia government’s industrial expansion fund, the province announced Friday.
The company, owned by the Hanspeter Stutz family since 1993, expects to create up to 30 jobs within three years through this expansion.
