MarketsFarm – To Glen Loyns of JGL Commodities at Moose Jaw, Sask., feed grains on the Canadian Prairies are in a weather market, with prices for barley, wheat and corn quite able to go either way.

“If it rains it’s going to be weak. If it’s dry it’s going to be higher. A pretty tough prediction right now,” he said.

Pressure has also been coming from weak demand, particularly pushing prices down for feed barley and wheat.

“Old-crop pricing is starting to come down considerably,” Loyns said, noting poor demand has had more influence on the feed market than limited supplies.

Added to that, there has been weak export demand for feed grains, especially for barley.

In speaking Thursday, Loyns said corn prices in the United States had dropped back recently, but there was a rally during the last few days.
