The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has lifted import restrictions on Cargill’s canola crushing plant at Clavet, Saskatchewan.
The plant, the largest for crushing canola in North America, was among five the FDA had placed in import-alert status following detection of salmonella in canola meal shipments to the U.S.
The FDA still lists restrictions on other Canadian plants including three Bunge canola plants in Nipawin, Sask; Hamilton, Ont.; and Altona, Man. and Viterra’s plant in Ste. Agathe, Man.
ICE Winnipeg canola futures closed higher Tuesday despite losses in U.S. soy futures, with traders attributing part of the increase to the lifting of the import restrictions.
