The $1 per head domestic checkoff for beef research and promotion now applies to imported cattle as well following an amendment to a Farm Products Council of Canada regulation.
Canada Beef, the country’s national promotion agency, estimates the levy will collect $800,000 annually.
“The Farm Products Council of Canada (FPCC) and Canada Beef have been collaborating on finalizing this amendment for several years now,” said Canada Beef chair Chuck MacLean in a release. “This will help beef producers expand their markets and increase sales and fund research projects, as well as provide increased access to information on beef products to Canadian consumers.”
