Winnipeg seed company BrettYoung Seeds plans to phase in its new CEO over the next three years.
Calvin Sonntag, currently CEO at the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Agency and formerly CEO at inoculant manufacturer Philom Bios (later Novozymes Biologicals), was named as "co-chief executive officer" at BrettYoung effective Tuesday.
"Over the next three years, Calvin will gradually assume all of the responsibilities of the CEO position, including management of all positions that presently report directly to the CEO," BrettYoung’s current CEO Lloyd Dyck said in a statement Thursday.

Sonntag, who will relocate from Saskatoon to Winnipeg this summer, also has previous management positions on his resume with Monsanto Canada and with AgrEvo Canada (now part of Bayer CropScience).
Sonntag’s new position at BrettYoung will also include that of co-chief sales and marketing officer, Dyck said.
BrettYoung now operates five seed distribution facilities across the Prairies, including sites at Winnipeg and Gilbert Plains, Man., Rycroft and Leduc, Alta., and Saskatoon.
The various sites handle processing, coating, packaging and distribution of canola, grass, and legume seed to markets worldwide.
