Exporters of Canadian sheep and goat genetics expect to gain up to $2 million in sales per year from access to Brazil, announced last week.
“Our members and small ruminant breeders in Canada are very excited about Brazil as a positive market opportunity,” Michael Hall, executive director of the Canadian Livestock Genetics Association (CLGA), said in a federal government release last Wednesday.
The CLGA has estimated Brazil’s market to be worth about $1.5 million to $2 million per year for Canadian exporters.
Canada’s exports of animal genetics reached $103.6 million last year, the federal government noted.
Brazil’s total imports of animal genetics last year were valued at $31 million, the government added.
Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz said the announcement “enhances our trading relationship with Brazil and further demonstrates how this government is working to deepen Canada’s engagement in the Americas.” — AGCanada.com Network
