Dates announced for Great Lakes Grain tour

The annual Great Lakes Grain Crop Assessment Tour will take place from August 29 to September 9, 2022.

The Great Lakes Grain tour has staff and partners from AGRIS Co-operative, FS PARTNERS and Coop Embrun scout corn and soybean fields with farmers who sign up for the tour. The team will conduct yield estimates, gauge crop progress and evaluate the overall health of Ontario corn and soybean crops.

By assessing these crops, the team can work with producers to understand if they have further opportunities to market their grain. Interested producers can have their fields assessed by registering through the Great Lakes Grain website.

Ontario Agricultural Stewardship Initiative third intake opens in August

Ontario’s Agricultural Stewardship Initiative (ASI)$3 million cost-share program intake opens on Aug. 13 at 9 a.m., helping agriculture, agri-food, and agri-based businesses improve energy efficiency and increase competitiveness, sustainability, and productivity.

The benefit of the crop tour is to have a better understanding of overall corn and soybean crop health and yield for farmer participants, exporters and end-users. This assists all parties to make agronomic, economic and handling decisions for the 2022-2023 crop. Great Lakes Grain also encourages the participation of industry end-users to accompany the tour.

Don Kabbes, general manager of Great Lakes Grains, said in a release that county yield results will be released at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show (COFS) September 13, 2022.

“We are truly looking forward to visiting with our producers and their families to share the results of the tour,” he said. “We’re excited with our continued support of COFS this fall, under the FS Ontario System and welcome Coop Embrun into the fold.”

Farmers interested in participating in the tour can access the form here.
