Maizex Seeds has announced it is purchasing the former Dow AgroSciences seed corn facility in Blenheim, Ont.

The expansion will allow Maizex to double its seed corn processing capacity.

“This expansion and investment in Canadian seed production is in large part thanks to the trust Canadian farmers have placed in Maizex Seeds, along with the growth we are experiencing through our announced joint venture with Sollio Agriculture,” says Dave Baute, president and chief executive officer of Maizex Seeds. Maizex currently produces and processes seed corn in its facility located near Tilbury, Ont.

“The purchase of the Blenheim seed corn plant is an excellent fit, which will allow us to more than double our current capacity in a premier area for seed corn production. Importantly, we are also able to work with experienced growers who, like our current seed producers, understand the importance of seed quality.”

He adds that Maizex plans to modernize the Blenheim plant and equipment there to meet anticipated demand.
